About Cherry Lodge Rest Home
Philosophy of care: dignity, choice and independence
Cherry Lodge was built in the Edwardian times and was established as a care home in 1988 by Mrs Cherie Calender, the Home’s Registered Manager at that time. Cherie still remains in overall charge, looking after the business and ensuring that our ethos continues to drive everything that happens at Cherry Lodge.
Our Commitment Is to Provide a Happy, Safe, & Relaxed Home for our residents.
Our residents are treated with the utmost dignity and respect by our care assistants and our aim is to provide each resident with the level of support necessary to enable him or her to maintain as much of their independence as possible within the home. Our considerable experience of the care industry has shown that one size does not fit all; each resident will have their own individual preference and view. The care we give is based on what we would seek for our own parents. Where possible, with the agreement of the resident and their doctor, we try to care for people in sickness and in health to the end of their life. All of our care assistants are friendly, approachable and work hard to foster a relaxed and comfortable environment for our residents.
Lisa Cemettre joined the Cherry Lodge care team in 2015 and now has risen to the role of Home Manager, she has more than ten-years experience caring for the elderly. Lisa’s main focus is spending time with and listening to the residents and their families to ensure they receive the best care, and that we meet all their needs. She monitors individual care plans on a regular basis to ensure our residents continue to receive the correct high level of care for the duration of their stay with us.
All new employees complete a mandatory induction programme and have undergone the Independent Safeguarding Adults (ISA) and Disclosue and Barring Service (DBS) at an enhanced level. We only recruit care assistants that share our values and who will work to maintain the high level of care provided by the home. We provide continuous training to all staff and we are committed to training all care assistants to achieve an NVQ in care. Mrs Callender is registered as a Certified Institute Training Practitioner and we have been awarded an Investors in People status due to our commitment to managing and developing our employees. Our care assistants follow stringent medication handling procedures in the home and, depending on an individual’s medical requirements, will administer medication in accordance with the instructions of a resident’s GP.
We recognise that living in a communal setting is difficult and the fact that our residents need to accept help with their personal tasks can be invasive. Our care assistants strive to provide our residents with as much privacy as possible within the home. We operate an open door policy where the Manager, Deputy Manager and Senior Staff are always available to discuss personal requirements or to answer any questions. We endeavour to support you and your loved one through the often stressful time of choosing a home and making the transition to living here as smooth as possible.
We employ an activities co-ordinator so that we can offer a wide range of social activities and encourage residents to continue their hobbies and leisure interests within the home. Our full time chef will provide varied and nutritious home cooked meals.
We plan care to meet individual needs. People are supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives. We support people in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; our policies and systems support this practice. We ask for and record people’s consent to care every step of the way.
We provide reliable, well-planned care. People are always able to contact us when they need to and access any information they require. Staff time-keeping is important to us and we will be sure to inform people of any unavoidable changes. Spot checks are carried out to ensure staff provide people’s care safely and in the way they prefer.
We contact people regularly to seek their views and act upon their feedback. Any complaints received are managed in line with the our written complaints procedure. Complaints are investigated by the registered manager and action is taken to address any issues raised.

Our Philosophy
Philosophy of care: dignity, choice and independence
Cherry Lodge prides itself in offering a highly professional standard of care to its residents.
Our residents are treated with the utmost dignity and respect by our care assistants and our aim is to provide each resident with the level of support necessary to enable them to maintain as much of their independence as possible within the home.
Our residents are encouraged to retain their independence through choice and consultation. We listen to our resident’s suggestions and ensure that they are fully consulted about all matters which will affect their day to day lives at the home. We also ensure that we provide flexibility in the daily routines of the home. Wherever possible we actively encourage our residents to retain their abilities for self care and to carry out the tasks of daily living unaided.
We recognise that living in a communal setting is difficult and the fact that our residents need to accept help with their personal tasks can be invasive. Our care assistants strive to provide our residents with as much privacy as possible within the home.
We believe that the dignity, choice and independence of our residents will be maintained by creating a supportive and structured environment and an open, positive and inclusive atmosphere in our home.
